Vinyl Safeguarding
Vinyl floor coverings are known to be resilient, tough and require minimal maintenance. However, it is important that if you want your new floor to perform to its full potential - a little care is required.
A few simple precautions are taken to prevent any unnecessary wear and damage to your new floor. It's a good idea to use an outdoor mat to remove any grit or dirt from shoes before entering the home. You vinyl floor will lose its brilliant shine if it is repeatedly subjected to sand and dirt - especially in heavily travelled areas. Frequent sweeping will prevent abrasive action and help prolong your floor's built-in shine.
Surface dirt can be easily removed with a broom, vacuum cleaner, or damp mop. Use a sponge mop and vinyl floor cleaner, following packaged directions. Do not flood the floor. Loosen ground-in dirt with a soft brush. Do not use scouring powder or other abrasive materials which may harm the surface.
Most vinyl floor surfaces need no waxing. If lustre diminishes in heavy traffic areas, wash floor as recommended, and buff with a lamb's wool pad. To really bring up the shine apply a liberal coat of vinyl floor finish.
Ensure furniture with sharp or small feet are fitted with suitable end caps or glides to distribute the weight evenly. Similarly a protective material such as felt can be fitted to prevent excessive marking from constantly moving furniture. Some rubber products such as mats or chair stoppers can cause permanent staining.
