Old Flooring Removal

Carpet
If an existing carpet is to be removed, vacuum it one last time prior to removal. The wooden strips that secure the carpet (smooth edge) in most instances are reused, so leave them in place.

Tip
The old carpet may sit higher against the skirting boards than the new. This is most common when the new carpet is a sisal or plush.
If the skirting boards were painted after the existing carpet was laid, there may be a gap that will need painting. Pre-planning for this will eliminate any disappointment - it is much easier to pull back the old carpet and paint now than after the new carpet is installed.

Vinyl
Lifting the existing vinyl or other hard floors is a specialised skill. If we are doing this for you, it will usually be completed by separate tradespeople prior to the installer’s arrival.
Remember to cover benches and furnishings to protect them from the dust that sanding and lifting floorcovering generates.
